Sonshine Kids firmly believes the foundation for all learning is nurtured through a fun hands-on learning environment that develops each child’s sense of self-worth, individual creative expressions, and their unique strengths. Our center-based preschool classrooms are full of opportunities for learning, socialization, and growth. Weekly themes are used to support various early childhood concepts that build the child’s literacy, math, music, art, and social skills. To support our weekly themes, we use a variety of curriculums including ‘Handwriting without Tears’, ‘Star Fall’, and also align with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). In addition, we offer music, P.E., computer lab, and sensory lab. At Sonshine Kids, Christian learning is infused throughout the day and through the weekly interactive Chapel time for the entire school.
Sonshine Kids staff have a passion and calling to teaching in the early childhood setting and bring a unique blend of personal and professional experience to our program. All teachers are required to complete a minimum of 26 continuing education training hours each year and are also First Aid and CPR certified.

“Sonshine kids is hands down, without a doubt, the best place for my kids’ first ever school experience! The teachers and staff are what make it so amazing and you can see their love and adoration for the kids shine everyday. In fact; I loved it so much, I made sure to get my second child enrolled as soon as he hit 18 months and within only a handful of weeks, he’s already growing his language and cognitive skills more than I could have imagined! So very thankful for FMUMC and Sonshine Kids.” - Lisa W.
"Upon relocating to Texas last year, we were extremely nervous we wouldn’t find what we left in Georgia. Little did we know, we would find something even more amazing. The love, compassion and support we continue to receive from everyone at Sonshine Kids has been an answer to prayer and is like nothing we have ever seen. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts!" - Katherine B.
"We moved to Flower Mound from out of state and didn’t know a soul or have any idea which preschool to send our kids to. Sonshine kids at FMUMC was recommended and we took a chance. To say we’ve been pleased is an understatement - and let me just say I have considerably high expectations. Their staff is genuine, caring, organized and devoted. We are greeted with a smile each morning and I always know our kids are safe, well cared for and in a wonderfully positive atmosphere where they cater to the needs of each individual child and help all kids fit in. My kids love school and are learning at lightning speed while surrounded by teachers that make new subjects exciting. Our kids are learning, making friends, are happy and finally feel at home in our new community and we have FMUMC and their incredible staff to thank for that. " - Emily H.
Mission Statement
As a mission of Flower Mound United Methodist Church, we strive to serve and equip students and their families to grow spiritually, socially, physically, emotionally, and academically as unique children of God, in a secure, nurturing, Christian and professional environment.
Goal
As a ministry of Flower Mound United Methodist Church that began in 1999; the goal of Sonshine Kids is to provide a quality preschool education in a Christian environment where we teach the Christian Faith in accordance with the United Methodist doctrine. This encourages preschool success through an atmosphere that affirms each student as a capable, significant, and loved child of God. Individual growth in the learning process, responsibility, and respectfulness is encouraged. Our school rejoices in recognizing each child’s uniqueness and individual differences.
Our philosophy is simple; to provide developmentally appropriate activities, prepare children to exceed in their future education endeavors, give children the skills needed to self-regulate when the world does not go their way, and build a strong Christian foundation. All while allowing the child to be a child and to learn through play.
