Stewarding our Talents
by Rev. Alexandra Robinson on October 16, 2024
Each of us are made to be completely unique: from our outside appearance to our inner character. Each of us has unique life stories we have processed to form our personalities: from our homes of origin to our professional experiences. Each of us have natural giftedness: from artistic tendencies, to athletic abilities, to skills of organization. Each of us have skills we have learned: from carpentry to childcare, from database management to decorating for fundraisers, from social media influencers to supper club hosting. Each of us then come together to be the body of Christ – uniquely.
This is what makes every church unique – the people in it. But we can only be the fullness of the body of Christ when each person reflects who they are – uniquely. No one church is meant to duplicate another, because God’s work in us is dependent upon who is in the church and how they offer of themselves.
So I ask you this week to consider, how are you stewarding your time and talents? What talents, skills and hobbies do you have that might help us to be the fullness of who God has made us to be?
Here are some current church members who are offering their talents, skills and hobbies to benefit the church:
Kirsti Landels, is starting a walking group for women, who will meet weekly for building Christian friendships and strong bodies, as they prepare for a group “Hot Chocolate Run” in February.
Amy Warren is organizing hilarious “stewardship games” for worship using her great sense of humor and creativity.
Gene Gray has offered his hobby for photography and film by photographing Depart to Serve activities and mission team support.
Kathy and Mike Jordan are leading Financial Peace University in January to help others find the financial peace they have experienced through this program.
Carolyn Hagan, Greg Blair and Jeff Walsh, are sharing their financial expertise by collaborating with University of North Texas graduate students to conduct our annual church financial audit.
Alec Zavodny, our newest member who joined on Sunday, is bringing his special chili recipe for the Fall Festival.
Debra Fitzgerald, a licensed therapist, is leading our Couples Communication class this Sunday evening.
All of these are just a few examples of what has happened the past couple of weeks in offerings of the time and talent of our church members. This is how the body of Christ comes together to be the fullness of our unique call in this community. So continue to consider how YOU ARE uniquely gifted and how God might be leading you to offer of your talents, skills and hobbies so our church might be the fullness of who God needs us to be! Then make note of this on your stewardship card to be submitted on October 27th, as we gather together in stewarding our time, talent and treasure as the body of Christ!
