Singing God’s Praise
by Rev. Alexandra Robinson on July 09, 2025
“You can depend on him, no matter where you are bound
I’ll shout it from the mountaintops: Praise God!
The Lord of Love has come tome – I want to pass it on…”
These are the words Camp Mystic girls sing while being rescued from the flooding of the Guadalupe River this weekend. If you have not yet heard their voices singing these songs, while driving through the devastating damage, it will stir your spirit and your tears. Imagining the terrifying experience they have gone through, and their faith to sing God’s praise is an example to us all. For they teach us that praise of God is not because of circumstance, praise of God is despite the circumstance. They remind us that God’s plan of our lives is never for harm but for wholeness. They assure us that sacred times can be found in the power of community living out a vision beyond one time.
Ephesians 1:3-14 offers praise to God in a beautiful panoramic vision of what God’s love has brought into reality – the presence of Jesus Christ. It is a presence that assures us of the universal restoration God chooses to bring to life. God chooses that purpose, adopting us, as children of God: giving us a belonging and identity bigger than the current moment or circumstance. And it is this belonging which allows us to be part of the blessing of God’s work in the world. This is why we praise, this is why we sing, this is why we pass on the good news of God’s love.
I hope and pray these young girls witness offers you pause and purpose, renewed by faith, no matter your circumstance. Our role of praising God can and needs to happen in times like these, not because we account our circumstance to God’s doing or divine plan, but that we have faith – in what is not seen. We can sing praise believing God’s work in Jesus Christ is the plan, that love conquers all, and that is enough for the journey ahead.
If you are interested in “passing it on” through the blessing of your witness to God’s love, please join in our efforts with the Horizon’s Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church listed here:
The most effective way to help at this moment is through financial contributions. Our Bishop is calling for a special, conference-wide offering to directly support relief and recovery efforts in the communities impacted by the floods, which span the Rio and Horizon Texas Conferences. Every gift, no matter the size, becomes a lifeline of hope.
Volunteer Your Time and Skills
If you feel called to serve, please let us know by completing the volunteer interest form linked here. Our Horizons Texas Conference coordinator, Rev. Basset will work to match volunteers with emerging needs, ensuring that your gifts meet real, immediate challenges.
Prepare for Future Needs
At present, there are enough flood buckets available in Central Texas. However, we anticipate a need to replenish supplies as recovery continues. Learn more about flood buckets here, and watch for future conference updates with details on when and where to deliver flood buckets.
