“But what if….”

“But what if….”

by Rev. Alexandra Robinson on August 30, 2023

Reading: Psalm 103

This is a phrase we often use when considering forgiveness.

“But what if…. she never apologized?”

“But what if…he will never change?”

“But what if….being around her is harmful for me?”

“But what if…I can never trust him again?”

The ways in which we speak about forgiveness reflects that this act is one of the hardest things we are called to do as Christians.  Deliberating whether or not to forgive another person can make us question our Christian integrity, our ability to self-differentiate and how we protect ourselves.

This month, we will be exploring forgiveness: the why, how and when of it all.  There are no simple answers, no guilt will be delivered and no shame handed out.  Rather, this will be a vulnerable, honest journey about God’s work in the midst of our human heartache.  So if you are in a position where you are wondering if forgiveness will make you feel like a doormat, or excuse a painful past, or even set you up for disappointment in the future, I hope you will consider attending this series.

I pray together we might ask a another question that shapes our faith journey:

“But what if….God forgives?”
