For All the Saints

Reading: Genesis 37:1-11
We all have dreams, some of them are bigger than others. But we all have them.
This week we hear about Joseph – who has big dreams: of his brothers bowing down to him in their future. It’s a pretty self centered dream, focusing on his own prestige and power over others, and he isn’t afraid to tell them about it. As much as we might judge Joseph’s self centeredness, he is representative of our human condition – and the many ways we see that being lived out daily. But as we will see over the next few weeks, his dreams connect with the power he can use for the good – by feeding others in a time of famine.
Our nation today is facing a modern famine, as SNAP benefits for millions of people are reduced to nothing. In these decisions, we see how human dreams of political prestige are harming God’s dream for the world. God, who is at work for the renewal of all creation – weeps for those who are going hungry. This is the time for us, as the body of Christ called the church, to utilize the power we do have for the good. This is how God’s dreams become reality.
At Flower Mound UMC, our missions team continues to focus on alleviating food scarcity and home insecurity. So in response to the current food crisis, we are donating $5,000 to Christian Community Advocacy (CCA) to help expand their ability to serve more people in the Lewisville area. We believe this is the quickest way to reach the growing need around us. When we take actions like these, we are proclaiming loudly that dreams are to be aligned with God’s will, not our will, to bring heaven on earth. It is this kind of work that we need more of, as the church continues to grow and expand it’s ministries, not only ensuring that persons have food in their bellies, but food for their souls. Not just that every person has a home physically, but a home spiritually. As such, some of the continuing dreams of our church leadership for the coming year, can only be achieved by your support.
Some of our church’s dreams for 2026 are:
· Create a children’s church during our 11:00 a.m. service to provide an age inclusive space for children to worship in praise and proclamation.
· Provide opportunities for spiritual exploration through art, poetry and creative expression for emotional and spiritual healing for all ages.
· Purchase new equipment for our live stream worship services in order to upgrade the quality of this platform to reach new people for Christ.
· Invest in our youth and children’s program to continue new programs such as Junior Youth, Growing with God Junior, and connectional ministry development with Sonshine Kids preschool families.
· Offer continuing support with our community partners to grow our reach of food scarcity and homelessness ministries.
· Begin conversations with church and community partners about development of FMUMC “field” property.
This Sunday, we will announce our current “2026 Estimate of Giving” results. As you know, our goal was for every household to participate, and I pray we can depend on your support. If you have not yet submitted your financial estimate of giving yet, please do so, at the link here. I am so grateful to serve as your pastor, as we continue to live out God’s big dreams of glimpses of heaven, right here on earth.
